Kate Douglass went full-throttle in the prelims of the 200 breast at Olympic trials, clocking a time of 2:19.66. She was just 0.36 seconds off her own American record in the event, and put up her second-fastest performance ever. In addition, she also qualified for semifinals as the top seed by 5.95 seconds.
Douglass’s swim broke an U.S. international qualification meet record, with the previous record being a 2:20.38 clocked by Rebecca Soni back in 2009.
Compared to her American record, Douglass was just 0.27 seconds off slower going out. Her back half was even more identical to her personal best, as she was only 0.09 seconds off her American record closing 100 pace.

Douglass will have to do a double this finals session. At approximately 8:03 p.m. EST, she will race the 100 free final. Then, at approximatley 9:25 p.m. EST, she will race the semifinals of the 200 breast.
